The jewelry house of Carrera y Carrera has released a new collection to the upcoming Christmas which sparkles with gardenia flowers, embroideries resembling bullfighter outfits and even with some architectural details of yellow gold and diamonds.
Several years ago Carrera y Carrera jewelers created the De Luces collection inspired by the glittering and richly embroidered bullfighter costumes. These jewels bring their owners to the depthward of the Spain history – indeed, the bullfighting, originated in the Bronze Age, has always been a traditional national entertainment. To the New Year festivities three precious garments have been added to the De Luces collection: a ring, earrings and a pendant of yellow gold and incrusted with diamonds. Bracelet, rings and earrings of Córdoba collection have been
sculptured as miniature artworks by the Carrera y Carrera jewellery house goldsmiths inspired by the geometric motives of andalusian jameh mosque in Cordoba. Mesquita which building-up started in the year of 600, considered to be the second largest mosque in the world and after the Reconquista was reconstructed to the church and changed to the Byzantium style. The jewellery garments of Carrera y Carrera New Year collection resemble lattice and incised ornaments which you can often find in Mesquita architecture.
As to Gardenias jewelleries, it’s easy to guess from the name that a beautiful tropical gardenia flower widespread in South Africa, East and South-East Asia, and also in Andalusia becomes its foundation. Cuban wore odorous white or yellow flowers of these evergreen shrubs in the 50’s of last century, they were used in traditional Chinese medicine and as well as for harmless colorants. And Coco Chanel herself considered gardenia as sensuality and innocence symbol.
